Neon sign greeting visitors to Basil Thai Charleston is blessed with the most amazing selection of restaurants, many at affordable prices. The advantage of being a tourist town is that bad restaurants don't last long. It's pretty unfortunate that many visitors head straight for the chain restaurants when the local establishments have so much more to offer. You may be interested in knowing that all bars and restaurants in Charleston and Mount Pleasant city limits are now smoke-free. Since we haven't had a chance to visit every restaurant in town, we present to you our list of Favorite Local Restaurants.

Table Key
Name: Name of restaurant. Some of these are clickable for more detailed info.
Location: Direction and driving distance from downtown Peninsula. Driving distances computed from Marion Square. Direction listed first to enable sorting by region.
Value (1-5): A rough comparison between food quality and prices. Quality of service also factors in, however atmospheric variables only play in if they heavily impact the experience. A 5 is exceptional.
Entree Price: Median dinner entree prices. Note there is always a large variability between menu prices. This is a simple gauge of how expensive your meal will be. A * indicates more than one entree required to make a full meal (tapas).
Noise Level (1-4): How hard it is to hear people at your table during the busy dinner hour. Very loud restaurants can be much quieter during lunch hour or at non-peak times. A 4 is very loud.
Open Days: Days of the week the restaurant is open for dinner. For detailed hours of operation, contact the business directly because these change regularly.
Groups? The ease of getting a table for 6 or more people. Most group friendly restaurants accept advance reservations or have a large seating area.
Wait: S - Short, M - Moderate, L - Long. Based on the busiest hours.
